Transform Mission Revolt - Dragstrip

Transform Mission Revolt - Dragstrip

Transform Mission Revolt has me pretty excited to complete this set of Stunticons. Despite the somewhat annoying backpacks of the previous figures, I really like the overall design.

Since Combiner Wars wasn't going for real world cars, I couldn't understand why that Dragstrip only has four wheels. Revolt has the appropriate six wheels. I especially like the detailing on the engine block, with the metallic gold paint and line work. Too bad it's not Die-cast. The racing stripes are cleanly applied. The cockpit has some nice detailing as well, with a steering wheel and seat belts represented. It's too small for the mini Transformer people though. His head is kind of visible in the cockpit. Although his undercarriage is fairly clean, it doesn't really hide robot hands and legs. He rolls quite well on three pairs of rubber tires. His rifle stores underneath.

Transformation is pretty fun. I particularly like how the legs form up, and I especially like how the wheels lock into place so they don't spin. This was something that DX9 Invisible really needed. His arms are pretty straightforward to form. I don't like having to yank out his forearms though and I couldn't get his neck plate to stay tabbed in. Going back to vehicle mode was pretty easy and not frustrating.

Like the previous Stunticons from Transform Mission, I find I really enjoy Revolt's robot mode. The paint applications and line work really make for an interesting figure. The head could be a little more stylized, but that's maybe because I'm fond of Combiner Wars Dragstrip's face sculpt. This time, there is no swiveling backpack that messes with my OCD.

His head is on a ball joint. He can look up, but not down. His shoulders are on hinged ball joints. He can raise his arms out and up a little past 90 degrees. His shoulder covers are on their own hinges and swivels so you have to manipulate them separate from his arms. He swivels at his biceps and forearms. His elbows are single-jointed and can only curl to 90 degrees. His thumbs are fixed in place and the rest of his fingers are single-pinned and articulate as one unit. He has a waist swivel. His hips are on universals. While he can technically do a full side splits, the gray pieces on the back of his thighs literally cause his butt to detach. The same pieces prevent him from doing a full front splits because he can't raise his legs out behind him. Being mindful of his hip skirts allows him to raise his legs out in front of him. His thighs swivel around his universal joints and are hindered by their sculpt. His single-jointed knees only curl to 90 degrees. Like Invisible, he doesn't really have feet. His toes are on tilts and swivels. His heels are his wheels, but they are locked in place so he doesn't have a tendency to fall over.

His accessories include his rifle and more build-it-yourself bits for a miniature Optimus Prime. The rifle has some silver paint. The handle and extra grip are on hinges. I really wish designers would move away from Masterpiece-styled tabs, especially when it's a pain to fit the gun handle within the figure's grasp. To its credit, the rifle stays put once you finagle it into place. I don't think there are enough pieces to put together Optimus Prime yet. Between various photography projects and painting miniatures, I don't think I'll get around to assembling him.

I'll be displaying Revolt on my IDW shelf. I'm glad I started collecting the Transform Mission Stunticons. They've got a hat trick going so I am quite hopeful the rest of the set won't disappoint. I can't wait to get a hold of an IDW Megatron to lead this group.

Transform Mission Carnage - Breakdown

Transform Mission Carnage - Breakdown

The second entry in Transform Mission's Stunticons has a stunning looking vehicle mode and an IDW-inspired robot mode. I enjoyed their Disorder figure. Carnage scratches that same itch.

He looks absolutely fantastic in vehicle mode. Panel lines are kept to a bare minimum. Is he an accurate Lamborghini? I wouldn't know since I'm not really a car enthusiast. There's a spot for a Lamborghini logo, but he does not come with one. The blue and red paint applications are a bit sloppy and the metallic perl is dinged in a few places. He rolls fine on what I think are plastic tires, but his undercarriage comes real close to scraping the ground. The sideview mirrors and rear spoiler do pop off. A little superglue will lock them into place. His rifle stores underneath.

Transformation is pretty simple. The leg bits are a little more involved than the upper body, but nothing complicated. Like Disorder, I wished the backpack would lock into place. The windshields on his arms have transparent plastic hinges. I'm not a fan on how the feet are formed. They don't really lock into place and don't provide much articulation. The doors are handled a fair bit better on Carnage than on Disorder. Going back to car mode required a little finagling to get panels into place, but it wasn't too bad.

He has a great head sculpt with an amusing smirk on his face. The newly exposed metallic paint applications are much more cleanly applied than those in vehicle mode. The line work is done well. I love the way his upper body looks, but not so much his lower legs. His knees stick out way too far because of the tires and knee pads. His feet remind me of hooves.

His head is on a balljoint. He can look up quite far, but not down at all. His shoulders are on balljoints. The rods connecting the balljoints to the internal parts of the shoulders look kind of thin so I do worry about breakage, especially since the balljoints are especially tight on my copy. They do have some butterfly action. If you work with the sculpt, you can get his arms raised outward to 90 degrees. His thumbs are fixed and his fingers are singled-pinned and articulate as one unit. He swivels at the biceps, wrists, waist, and thighs. His elbows are double-jointed, but the upper joints hinge mostly in the reverse direction. He's like that friend that grosses people out with his weird backward elbow bend. They can get to a little more than 90 degrees, in both directions. His knees are sort of double jointed, but the lower joints aren't really that usable. They only get about halfway to 90 degrees. His hips are on universals. His feet don't really have any usable articulation. Tilting them too much forward will break the leg sculpt. Supergluing those loose mirrors and spoilers are pretty much a requirement if you are going to be manipulating him much. It's difficult to stand him upright without bending somewhere in his hips or knees because of the way his knees are designed.

His accessories include a purple rifle, and bits and bobs of an assembly-required mini Optimus Prime. The rifle is in the same styling as the one that came with Disorder - purple plastic with some line work. The barrel and handle hinge for storage. He holds it just fine via a slotted tab. There is not enough pieces to assemble the mini Optimus Prime. Presumably the next few figures in the set will have the rest of his parts.

I'll most likely be displaying him on my IDW shelf alongside Generation Toy (are they the same company?) and GCreation figures. I love Combiners, but they usually don't live up to their worth in terms of stability and posability. Of course, this one remains to be seen. I'll most likely assemble Menasor for some pictures and then display this set as individual bots. Since GCreation has an Optimus Prime, I'm hoping they will make a suitable Megatron to lead these guys.

Transform Mssion Disorder - Wildrider

Not unlike Generation Toy, Transform Mission Disorder arrives in a very solid box with great artwork and a protective foam insert. I missed out on the FansProject Stunticons and am disappointed with the Combiner Wars Stunticons so I'm excited to possibly have a great version of Menasor to go in my collection.

Vehicle mode looks really good. The line work depicts vents in the hood, racing lines along the sides, and a gas cap on one side. I would be pretty happy driving around in a car that looks like this. His windshields and headlights are made of red transparent plastic. The side view mirrors are soft rubber, but the rear side spoilers are hard plastic. Although the hubcaps are silver painted, there does not appear to be any paint on the body of the car. The rear lights could have used that extra detail. He rolls very well on hard rubber tires.

Transformation is pretty straightforward. The most complicated part is the feet, but even that is fairly easy. I like how the chest expands. I don't like the use of transparent plastic hinges for every single windshield. I also wished that the backpack locked into place.

I love his head sculpt. The line work for the panel under his shin windshields is a nice touch. The lower legs very much remind me of those on Masterpiece Tracks. I wish the arm kibble had formed around his arms to give them a more boxy look like in the cartoons.

The vertical motion of his head is severely limited so I can't tell if it's on a balljoint or a swivel and hinge. His shoulders are on hinges and swivels. He has fixed thumbs and single-pinned fingers that articulate as one unit. His elbows are technically double jointed, but the top part is reversed for transformation. He swivels at the biceps, wrists, waist, and thighs. His hips are universal joints. He has single jointed knees. His feet are on tilts and rockers.

His only accessory is his rifle. It is purple plastic with some line work. It hinges at the barrel to facilitate storing in vehicle mode. The Masterpiece style tab works surprisingly well.

I'll ultimately display the set as Menasor alongside all the other combiners on my CHUG shelf. If he's really tall, I'll put him next to Toyworld Devastator. In vehicle and robot modes, he definitely wouldn't look too out of place in a Masterpiece collection. If you're looking for slavish accuracy to the G1 cartoon, this figure isn't it. This is a great start to a new set from a new/renamed/offshoot company. I'm looking forward to completing the collection.
