Unique Toys Buzzing - Blurr

I was never a big fan of Blurr's hovercraft alt mode in the cartoon, but it seems to be pretty faithfully represented here. There are a couple of mount points for the included rifle. Haywire doesn't fit in the cockpit. A display stand would have been a nice accessory to include.

Transformation from robot to vehicle starts off easy enough, but it's easy to get a little turned around when dealing with the legs. I also had a little trouble getting the thrusters on the arms to go into the undercarriage and the seats to tab together. I'm not sure what to do with the dark blue panels in the cockpit.

Buzzing really shines in robot mode. The face sculpt looks fantastic and features metallic painted eyes. There are three different shades of blue throughout, interspersed with yellow, white, and metallic silver. On mine, the cockpit window has some paint globs, some of the edges aren't well-defined, and there are tiny paint splashes in a few places. The blades behind his elbows are a little exaggerated, but don't get in the way of articulation. If you lower the knee caps, you can make use of a shin swivel.

His head is on a swivel and hinge. His shoulders are on ratcheted swivels that hinge. He also swivels at the waist, biceps, forearms, wrist, and upper thighs. His fingers are single pinned, but the pointing finger is independent of the lower three. He has double jointed elbows and knees that go well past 90 degrees. His hips are soft ratcheted universals that can hold the weight of the leg. He has ankle rockers and feet tilt, but the sculpt of the legs gets in the way of the rockers.

His accessories include Haywire, a rifle, and a transformation cog. Haywire doesn't make a convincing rifle on his own, but he can combine with the other rifle to make a longer rifle. The longer rifle isn't that great either. Whatever configuration, Buzzing holds the rifles very securely in either hand without the need for that silly Masterpiece-style tab. As a Nebulon, Haywire is pretty well-articulated, but his legs keep popping off. It's nowhere near as bad as Grax from Toyworld Swamper. The transformation cog has accents in translucent plastic and fits nicely in the palm of Buzzing's hand.

I'll be displaying Buzzing on my Masterpiece shelf because of his size, quality, and likeness to the character. SXS Overclocking already works very well on my CHUG shelf. The paint application could be better applied, but I love how he's not simply a solid block of blue. This is a great figure. We are so close to having a full cast of Masterpiece Autobots from The Movie. Fans Toys is almost done with the Dinobots. I believe KFC is working on the Junkions. We just need a Masterpiece style Arcee, Kup, and Springer. Ugh, Wheelie, too.

Unique Toys Provider - Octane

I've always liked the Triple Changers. It's like having three toys in one. Unique Toys Provider is a good looking figure and features a set of fun transformations. 

The tanker could have used some separation from the cab, but overall looks great. He rolls just fine on rubber tires. The cab doesn't articulate from the tanker.

He cleans up fairly well as a jumbo jet. The front definitely looks better than the back. I'm glad it doesn't have a robot-with-a-backpack silhouette. Using the tires to form the engines is pretty smart way of getting the tanker tires out of the way. This is probably my favorite of the two alt modes.

I didn't encounter any difficulty in transforming between the various modes. Nothing needed to be forced. If a particular piece is blocked, it usually meant something else wasn't rotated enough out of the way. There's a neat mechanism to collapse the backpack into the empty torso region. 

His robot mode pretty much nails the G1 cartoon look. Although I like his head sculpt, I find his chin to be really narrow. He is fairly back heavy and will wobble if you don't position him just right, but his heel spurs will keep him from toppling over. I like the panel detailing and the different colors that break up all the white and grey plastic. His wingspan is impressive, but it eats up a lot of shelf space.

His head is on a balljoint. He has bicep, forearm, wrist, thigh, and waist swivels. The forearm swivel is obstructed by a panel though. His fingers are pinned through a single joint. He has single jointed elbows and knees. He has toe articulation, but the heel is fixed in place unless you untab it and break up the form.

His rifle is the only included accessory. It slots into his hand and stays in place. Both vehicles mode have weapon storage, but that's not a feature I care much about.

I find him too short to stand next to Chigurh on my Masterpiece shelf, and too tall for Blitzwing and Transportation Captain on my Combiner Wars shelf. He'll be going on my CHUG shelf next to Toyworld Evila Star. I included a bunch of comparison shots so you can decide where best he fits in your own collections.

I'm hoping Unique Toys works on a Blitzwing so I can have a cohesive set of Decepticon Triple Changers.

Introduction:
Unique Toys Ordin is moving along with this their third member Fenrir.  I’ve already mentioned how I was initially concerned that UT wouldn’t have the ability to create a decent combiner- based on their previous and only other gestalt effort War Lord- but let’s just say those days are long behind them and Ordin is shaping up very nicely.  So, does Fenrir do a good job of evoking ‘terror’ and more importantly is he a good buy?  Let’s find out.


Articulation:
If you’ve purchased the other members of Ordin thus far then you know exactly what to expect with Fenrir.  For those who haven’t, please note that he’s amply articulated and won’t disappoint those collectors who love their multitudinous articulation.  His head is on a ball-joint, as are the arms and legs, and all of the articulation makes for great and easy posing.  The only thing that could possibly be considered problematic- and that’s only if you lack creativity in finding ways to position them or at least get them out of the way in robot mode- are his two alt mode heads.   In bot mode they pretty much just sit limply on his back and it would have been nice if they pegged in back there.  Not that Fenrir will be doing any violent whipping back and forth action, thus causing the heads to slip into view, but I don’t purport to know how you play with your action figures.  But otherwise his articulation is excellent and on par with every other Ordin figure thus far.


Paint:
The paint application on Fenrir is minimal but what’s here is very solid.  Mostly the figure is molded in the primary colors yellow and teal, but any paint application is applied with care and looks great!  In fact I couldn’t locate any major flaws on mine- such as overspray, paint drip, scratches, etc.


Transformation:
Fenrir’s transformation is fairly straight-forward and can be done without the included instructions- I know this from experience.  Fold back his dragon heads, swing down his legs and tab them into the convenient knee holes, swing the arms around and pull out the robot fists, pull out his robot head located conveniently in his chest and he’s pretty much done.  My only concern once he’s in alt mode are the soft ratcheting back hips, which cause him to effect a squatting pose when they inevitably slip out of place.  This shouldn’t be too problematic though as it can be remedied by careful positioning of the figure- no blowing, touching, or even breathing in its general direction though.  Overall I found his transformation uncomplicated but serviceable.  As I’ve stated before complicated does not equal better, but sometimes (and especially at this price point) a bit more complicated wouldn’t be a bad thing.  At least make me feel like I’m not just buying another obligatory member.  Unfortunately with the simpler transformations it’s inevitable as a buyer to feel this way.  But Fenrir’s transformation isn’t exactly a three step ho-hum effort either.  I suppose sometimes you take the good with the slightly disappointing.


Bottom Line:
Ordin is going to be a great, but with the second of two recent combiner limbs for this guy feeling a tad too simple I’m beginning to feel fatigue set in.  Hopefully the finish line will come sooner than later or Unique Toys takes thing in a different direction with the next two.  I’m not saying there is a drop in quality or that there is anything inherently wrong with Fenrir, but he’s not exactly mind-blowing either.  No limb should feel obligatory and for some reason this one does.  Take that with a grain of salt though because the quality is still high and I still very much recommend Fenrir to those working towards completing their Ordin.
