Ocular Max PS-01 Sphinx - Mirage

I seem to be a sucker for anything made by Mastermind Creations. Although I already own and enjoy DX9 Invisible, I jumped on this iteration of Mirage and I'm glad that I did.

His Formula One racer alt mode looks beautiful. It has metallic painted fenders, side vents, and rear spoiler. The engine block and wheels are chrome. The tires are rubber. They attract a lot of dust and hair. The cockpit is nicely detailed and includes a steering wheel. Unlike DX9 Invisible, the sponsor reads Citanes like the G1 toy.

Transformation, while not complicated, involves quite a few rotating panels. Most everything seems to lock into place when done. My only complaint would be the panels at the shoulders don't really have any place to go and sometimes interfere with the bicep rotation.

His head sculpt seems faithful to the G1 cartoon. I like how the back is covered by the panels behind the cockpit. He has real heel spurs so is pretty stable. Die-cast throughout his body gives him some heft.

His head is on a ball joint and a rocker. The shoulders are articulated at two points. He has bicep swivels, double jointed elbows, and wrist swivels. Bending the wrist too much can cause the forearm panel to detach. His thumb and trigger finger articulate separately from the remaining three fingers. He has a waist swivel and an ab crunch. His legs swivel at the upper thighs, but has limited range of motion due to the thigh sculpt. His knees are double jointed. He has ankle tilts and rockers.

His accessories include a rifle, a chrome shoulder cannon, a parachute, an alternate face, an alternate head with a different crest, a driver, and a logo-free hood for the back of his head. The driver is just a piece of translucent blue plastic shaped into a head, chest, and arms. I don’t think it can stay on thru transformation into robot mode. His rifle and parachute use Masterpiece-style tabs that work pretty well. His shoulder cannon only works on his right shoulder and does not articulate upwards very much.

Mastermind Creations Sphinx is a wonderful figure. He looks beautiful next to other Masterpiece Autobots. This is a great start to their line of Masterpiece figures.
